It’s easy to get extremely emotional when it comes to wedge issues like gun control, gay marriage and teaching creationism in schools, to name only a few. But whenever we find ourselves showing a knee-jerk response, we should immediately stop, rewind and rethink our position. When we become emotional, chemicals rage through our brains and our capacities for critical analysis are diminished. The Power Structure understands this, and uses these issues to move the public around like chess pieces in their political game. Through these types of issues, a devastating kind of intellectual weakness in masses of incredibly smart and well-meaning people can be easily activated and exploited.
Gun control is a complicated topic, and a full analysis of the role of the Government-Media-Corporate complex in this issue is something I need to commit a detailed post to in the future. However, for now, I will say only this: The 2nd Amendment is not about protecting our right to hunt, or to shoot targets. It is a last defense against outright tyranny. And anyone who thinks that this reason is silly in the context of 21st-century America needs to either
A-Break out of their normalcy bias or
B-Read more history books.
Though for all intents and purposes tyranny has already taken hold in the US on paper, it has not yet gotten to a Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot or Mao-level war on the people. But it does look uncannily like the build-up to those regimes. As the Hitler survivor in the video below says, it takes five years. Ten years. It does not happen overnight. It happens incrementally, a law here and an executive order there, all passed “legally” by the guys we democratically elected, bit by surreal bit, especially in the years following an economic, terroristic or political crisis. In lieu of a detailed analysis of the gun control question for the time being, below is the video I’m referring to.
“In 1938, the media reported that Hitler rolled into Austria with tanks and guns and took us over. Not true at all. The Austrian people elected Hitler by 98% of the vote…the truth is, at the beginning Hitler didn’t look like or talk like a monster at all. He talked like an American politican.”
