With outbreaks of violence in Berkeley showing Antifa’s true colors as an indiscriminately ultraviolent militant group dead-set on physically attacking anyone who disagrees with them, who they will denounce as either a “Nazi” or “Nazi enabler,” the deterioration of public perception of the extreme left’s moral high ground appears to have picked up pace.
A key development is the realizations of journalists who are attempting to cover events where Antifa is marching. Many reporters are learning the hard way that these hardcore anarcho-Bolshevik leftists are equally hate-filled as any white supremacist. Many still perceive the Alt-Left’s brand of hate and violence as justified to fight other hateful, violent people. But when journalists find themselves under physical attack simply for trying to take pictures of a public protest, it leads them to realize that hardcore leftism is at least as much of a threat to public safety, decency, and debate as any right-wing person or ideology.
With enough journalists attacked in the streets by Antifa thugs simply for doing their jobs, the media narrative will have no choice but to begin representing them more accurately. This stands in contrast with the surreal endorsements of Antifa’s ultra-violent tactics that came in the wake of Charlottesville, when multiple outlets more or less classified Antifa violence as justified in the face of the threat said to be posed by Nazism and Alt-Rightism with average Trump supporters, which have been absurdly equated by contemptuous, morally-bankrupt politicans and pundits as being one and the same.
Antifa will continue what they’re doing. And with every new Berkeley, more journalists and even liberals will come to realize that unless you wear the black uniform of Antifa, you are just as much in their crosshairs as any Trump supporter. Just like with all historical Bolshevik movements, merely not believing enough, not being anti-Trump enough, or being perceived as not enough of an “ally” to certain groups is enough to get you looped in with “Nazi scum” and get you attacked.
Antifa is guaranteeing a Trump re-election in 2020. If they keep it up, they will be dismayed to find their tactics turned once-allied groups against them, and even motivated previous Antifa supporters to look deeper into the motivations of average Trump voters, leading them to humanize people Antifa has been trying so hard to paint as sub-human.
The “othering” of groups is, of course, a key step in being able to mobilize more moderate people into acts of mass violence against them. But Antifa’s ultraviolent, anti-human tactics, while masquerading as fighting for the rights of oppressed groups, will only turn Antifa itself into the “other” that Americans ultimately fear most.
Meanwhile, Antifa’s violent actions are being used to justify further quiet advancement of the American police state, resulting in more tyranny for all — ironically, oppressed groups such as People of Color who Antifa claims to be fighting for will bear more of the brunt of this growing police state than the average white person will.
There’s nothing like a person with a split, bloodied head to invite sympathy, empathy, and attempts at understanding from those who once disagreed with them. This is what Antifa will achieve. And it has already, and will continue, to strengthen Trump’s image even in the minds of those who loathe him.
