YouTube users who click links Aceloewgold.com content are now, in some cases, met with a message discouraging them from visiting the site on the basis of it being “unsafe.” The message, seen below, implies that attempting to read an article on Aceloewgold could result in “malware, phishing attempts, or disturbing content” being delivered to your computer. The message appears to have started appearing after multiple YouTube accounts linked to our coverage of the “Elsagate” phenomenon plaguing the platform.
While we have certainly covered topics that are, indeed, potentially disturbing, it’s clear that the message is meant to scare users into believing their computers will be compromised by malicious software if they follow links to pages on Aceloewgold. The warning is absurd and ironic — after all, YouTube itself is home to troves of potentially disturbing videos. YouTube is also home to millions of hyperlinks, with plenty of them linking to content far more disturbing than anything ever published here.
While there’s certainly no way to prove it, my inkling is that we have been identified as a “fake news” media outlet by Google’s algorithms (spoiler alert: we’re an opinion outfit, not a newspaper, and no one here claims to be a journalist). Rather than identifying fake news, Google looks for content that offers perspectives not approved by the self-appointed information gatekeepers of the neoliberal tech-media-journalism complex. Time will tell if YouTube begins censoring or modifying our video uploads as well.
By discouraging users from visiting our site via hyperlinks in video descriptions and comments sections, YouTube actively misrepresents our site’s content and how safe it is to visit. By painting sites that publish alternative ideas and opinions as dangerous to the security of your computer, Google has the power to substantially reduce the reach of ideas that run contrary to the established orthodoxy.
Tricking users into believing their computer will be infected with malware is one of the more basic and innocuous tools they have at their disposal. The fact is, Silicon Valley mega-corporatoins have become adjuncts of the neoliberal Deep State in their role to wrestle total control over the global flow of information. It’s a level of power that is unprecedented in many ways, and has deep implications for the ability of centralized, politicized, self-interested groups to manipulate humanity.
